On the Nasiha of Maulana Roshan, he urged the believers to regard the last days and nights of the Blessed month of Ramadan to be the best days and nights of a Blessed Ramadan. In thunderous response, Masjid Al Hijra and the Darul-Uloom Institute shook their roofs with their Katam -ul – Qur’an programs. However, I was particularly elated by the moving experience at Darul Uloom on the 28th night of Ramadan – September 27th 2008. The completion of the recitation of the Holy Qur’an in the Taraweeh Salaat filled the air with reverence; and filled our hearts with hopeful anticipation of the Mercy, Forgiveness, and Protection of the One and Only Rab of all creation. With a heart full of the Remembrance of Allah (SWT), and a reviver of the rich culture of our Deen – Shaikh Shafayat. Mohamed announced an ad-hoc program while his Jamaat respectfully awaited the arrival of the two Hufaz : Hafiz Khalid from ? Pakistan and Hafiz Siddique from Houston, Texas. But the wait was as sweet as the arrival of the dearest hufaz. Darul Uloom offered gifts of love and gratitude to its three resident hufaz who led the taraweeh salaat during the month. Hafiz Mohammad Khan, Hafiz Ahmad, and Hafiz Sajard allowed us the opportunity to listen to the entire Qur’anul Majeed during Ramadan Kareem. Shaikh Shafayat, in his unique style, produced a program in the magnificent tradition of Islam. We were taken to the mystical Indian Subcontinent with the profound Naats of Hafiz Ahmad, Brother Imran and Brother Sajard. The sincere rendition of Alwida by Brother Rasheed eased us into the flavor of the Caribbean Muslim community. We were then transported to the days of the early Caliphate as Hafiz Muhammad Khan echoed the Asma Ul Husna; the ninety–nine immaculate attributes of Allah (SWT). The hearts of the believers trembled as Angels spread their wings in the Adoration of the Most Merciful. Our cups overflowed as the walls of Darul Uloom reverberated with the scintillating melody of Quranic qiraat at its best. Hafiz Khalid and Hafiz Siddique recitations were reminiscent of our dear friend, Shaikh Muhammad Makawi of Egypt (May Allah (SWT) grant his soul Peace and Paradise). And so began our tearful spiritual journey into the climax of the night – the du’a of Katam-Ul-Qur’an. Shaikh Shafayat and Hafiz Ahmad bared their souls in their supplications. The lights dimmed and the believers huddled close together with lowered heads and raised hands. Postures befitting those who entreat Allah (SWT) at the Gates OF His Mercy. Eyes softened, and hearts sobbed incessantly. We stayed there for a while, lost in the pleading and heart rending voices as they cried for Mercy and Forgiveness. The lights then returned and a spiritually driven jamaat performed the Salaatul Witr (the closing prayer). It was indeed a powerful night of Ibaada (worship). We hope that it was also a Night of Power (Insha Allah (SWT)). Masjid Al Hijra and the Darul Uloom Institute have risen to the needs of the community – spiritual elevation and spiritual enrichment. May Allah (SWT) Bless, Protect and Guide the Ummah towards this enlightened path and make these two masajid beacon lights guiding to the Nearness Of Allah (SWT).
