Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Florida Memorial University in Miami, held a special prayer breakfast on Mon. Jan.19th 2009, for the late Dr. Martin Luther King. Shaikh Shafayat represented the Muslim community by doing a prayer on justice at the event. The guest speaker was Rev. Samuel Billy Kyles, while the coordinator of the program was Rev. Wendell Paris, the campus Minister at the University. Rev. Kyles is the only person alive today who witnessed the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King. He was actually taking Dr. King from the hotel room to his home for dinner, when the assassination took place. Rev. Kyles is a world renowned lecturer and has appeared on most major radio and TV networks. He also had the opportunity to meet many world leaders including President Nelson Mandela and President Bill Clinton. At the event, the editor of Al Hikmat sat next to Rev. Kyles and had the privilege of talking to him about his experience and time spent with Dr. Martin Luther King.
