PROPHET Ibrahim (A.S) and the Psalms - Torah - Bible - Qur’aan
Summary of Khutbah written by Sis. Karen Shah Program Vice President of Broward Interfaith Council, Florida U.S.A
Recently I heard a renowned Christian lecturer in Miami say on television: “The 9/11 terrorists were only obeying instructions from their Prophet Muhammad.” What?!! I wholeheartedly condemn Muslims including myself, not this preacher, for his remark. If Muslims were doing a better job at spreading the correct message of Islam, no one could make these terrible statements. And if we did a better job, and they still made these terrible statements, then Allah knows best. It’s like a parent and a child. The parent teaches the child Qur’aan and prayer, but when the child goes off the straight path, Allah knows best. But if the parent never taught the child about God and how to pray, then the parent is held responsible for not fulfilling his duty that Allah gave him regarding the child. Our job is to share Allah’s message, and Allah will guide whom He will: “Invite all people to the Way of thy Lord with wisdom…thy Lord knows best who have strayed from His Path, and who receive guidance.” We are responsible if others do wrong and we never taught them the true message of God. In Prophet Muhammad’s (S.A.W) Last Sermon at Arafat, he made it very, very clear: “I have given the message. Now take the message to those who were not here.” According to Sharia, it is haram to listen and do nothing when bad things are said about our prophet and his message. And this does NOT mean with violence. Use kind words to continue the prophet’s (S.A.W) mission. “Who is better in words than one who invites others to the way of Allah…” (Ch:41 V:33) Last week another Christian preacher said, “Don’t be fooled about Islam — it is not reality. It is false propaganda.” What are we doing about it? We have a bunch of sleepers, wasting time fighting amongst ourselves over cultural issues!!! On the day of judgment we will be asked what we did to spread the message. The best deed, after fulfilling our 5 pillars, is to continue the prophet’s (S.A.W) mission. It is obligatory for us to educate the world, Muslims and non-Muslims, on the true message of Islam. In 3:64, Allah commands us: “Say to the Christians and Jews: come to the path of Allah, to the words and messages that are common between us.” And what do we have in common? After Allah, we have Abraham in common. In the Torah, Bible, Psalms and Qur’aan, God tells us that those who have faith will be blessed as God blessed Abraham. The Christians and Jews know this from their own books. They also know that God promised Abraham to bless his sons and progeny, and make them into powerful nations and leaders. Do you realize that our daily salat includes the words: “O Allah, bless Muhammad and the family members of Muhammad as you blessed Ibrahim and the family members of Ibrahim.” Every day, five times a day, Muslims acknowledge Prophet Abraham and his family members. Abraham is a major area of commonality between Jews, Christians and Muslims, a powerful link between us. In 4:125, Allah tells us as He told the Jews and Christians to “follow the way of Abraham who was the rightly guided one.” We share words of similarity in all our Books. Remind them that their own Books speak of Abraham and how his progeny will be blessed, and the Qur’aan confirms this. All the prophets were brothers in one religion. In 42:13, Allah tells us that the religion of Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad are the same religion. There’s lots of misinformation out there. Ignorant Muslims and radical Muslims create problems. Bad people use this to condemn all Muslims. We must educate ourselves and the world. Explain the common areas between us. All the Books confirm that Abraham had two sons, Ishmael and Isaac. And from them came his progeny, us. It takes education! Use our “One God, One Religion” brochure to explain our common roots. It costs $75 to sponsor 100 brochures. Take it for free and share it with others. “The best amongst you is he who enjoins good and forbids evil…” Do your duty as Allah commanded. Clear up the misconceptions, to create unity and peace in the world, InshaAllah. Continue the Prophet’s (S.A.W) mission.
